About Church Council & Ministry Teams
Generally
Decisions on church life are made through the Church Council and our Ministry Teams. Most teams meet the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm. We begin together with devotions then separate into groups to attend business. Suggestions and concerns are always welcome at the appropriate team. Those with special interests, talents, and skills are encouraged to volunteer and help with a team. Here is a description of the main leadership groups.
Church Council
The Church Council consists of nine (9) elected members and the pastor. Three members are elected annually to serve a three year term. One member serves as president, one as vice-president, and one as secretary of the congregation. The council also appoints a church treasurer, and a financial secretary (church secretary) to maintain records of our contributions and finances. The council has the responsibility to oversee and conduct the business of the church. Members of the council also serve as a liaison to the committees and help on Sunday mornings by counting offerings and assisting with communion.
Worship and Music
The Worship and Music Team plan the worship life of our congregation. They oversee the Altar Guild, worship furnishings and paraments, musicians and choir, securing of assistants for worship each Sunday, special music, and instruments.
Education and Youth
The Education and Youth Team is to oversee the Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, confirmation, and adult education programs. Sunday School staff are members of this team. Their work is to encourage members of the congregation to continue to grow and explore their faith. Youth programming is also directed by this team. Because of the many activities which need to be planned, this committee generally meets the first Sunday of each month about noon.
Witness and Service
The Witness and Service Team develop programs which service our congregation and witness to the community. It emphasizes the church’s concern for the poor, the sick, the hungry, and all who need to hear the message of God’s love and forgiveness. This team helps those in our congregation needing assistance with meals, rides and other ways we can provide support to people during difficult times. Providing “sponsors” is a program which seeks to offer care and welcome for new comers to Saron.
Stewardship
The Stewardship Team is responsible to prepare programs which promote the Christian use of time, talent, and financial resources. An important area of work is the annual stewardship event when members are asked to estimate their financial support for the coming year.
Property
The Property Team sees to the upkeep of the church properties. They oversee our contracted services and organize workdays at the church. Long range goal planning directed by the congregation and council falls under their authority.
